Antenatal Care
Antenatal Appointments as Follows
Initial visit includes but is not limited too
- Discussing midwifery model of care, limitation of out of hospital birth, client responsibilities, care costing and payment schedule, informed consent given
- Personal, medical, obstetrical and family history
- Evaluate dates with LMP and EDD, decide if early USG for dating is necessary
- Physical exam including blood pressure check, urine analysis, measuring weight etc
- Advice and information on available genetic screening
Routine visits with the midwife to include:
- Advice regarding diet, exercise, vitamin supplementation, and normal physiological changes in pregnancy
- Maternal vital signs including blood pressure
- Abdominal palpation and measurement of babies growth and positioning
- Monitoring fetal heart tones
- Hep B screen
- Answer questions and address concerns
Order lab work for prenatal tests including
- Blood type and factor, antibody screen
- VDRL or RPR
- CBC
- Rubella Titer
- Hep B screen
- HIV screen
- Gestational Diabetes Screen
- Pap Smear Screen
Conception-28weeks
- Monthly checkups with the midwife at the birth center
28-36weeks: Twice monthly checkups with the midwife at the birth center (Hemoglobin is re-tested at 32 weeks)
36-40weeks: Weekly checkups at the birth center, one of these visits will be at the client’s home to see where they are living for postnatal checkups at home
The midwife is always available for phone calls to address concerns between appointments.
